Actor and singer songwriter, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Jamie Foxx[/lastfm], has been chosen to star in Quentin Taratino’s next film, Django Unchained. According to Deadline.com, Foxx will join an already star-studded cast including Christoph Waltz (who won an Oscar for his performance in Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds), Leonardo DiCarprio and Samuel L. Jackson.
Foxx, who has proven himself to be one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors, from his day’s on “In Living Color” to his Oscar-winning performance in ‘Ray’, among many others. Foxx will play the role of Django, a slave who’s liberated by a German dentist-turned-bounty hunter(played by Waltz), and the news Foxx accepting the role is already creating an “Oscar” buzz.
The German dentist/bounty hunter takes the time to teach Django the tricks of the trade helping Django reach a life goal, to recover his wife from her evil ranch owner Calvin Cande (played by DiCaprio). The ranch owner, Cande, runs Candyland, a filthy club and plantation in Mississippi where female slaves are exploited as sex objects and males are forced to fight each other in “Mandingo” style death matches. Candyland is every slaves worse nightmare and it just so happens that’s where Django’s wife Broomhilda is!
Samuel L. Jackson is expected to play the role of Stephen, Ranch owner Cande’s valet who keeps salves “in line” on the plantation.
Even with Production set to begin in November and although no deal has “officially” been made with Foxx, Deadline.com is reporting it’s pretty much a done deal, film critics are already saying this could be Foxx’s next chance for an Oscar…. Sounds like it to me!
