I am beyond heartbroken. Well okay maybe I’m being a little bit over dramatic but I was extremely excited about Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels and the Farrelly brothers teaming back up for another ‘Dumb and Dumber.’

According to ETOnline.com, Carrey dropped out because the studios behind the film, New Line and their parent company Warner Bros., “showed a lack of enthusiasm” for the sequel.

Carrey released a statement to ETOnline.com saying he “I would have thought ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ was a no-brainer, after all it’s implied in the title.”

I have to agree with Carrey, the first film did make almost $250 million worldwide in 1994. Production was supposed to begin this fall and Peter Farrelly told Moviefone back in April that the storyline “Picks up today, It’s 17 or 18 years later. It’s not like a month after that happened. It’s today. And we explain what they’ve been doing all those years.”

Unfortunately everyone involved wants there to be a second ‘Dumb and Dumber’ except the studios. So will there be a second one without Carrey? Who knows but that seems highly unlikely since it seems Carrey was instrumental in moving the film forward from the start.

“We’ve always wanted to do a sequel,” Peter Farrelly told ComingSoon.net. “Jeff always wanted to do it. We always wanted to do it. Jim was busy, but he called and said, ‘We’ve got to do this thing again.’ He had just watched ‘Dumb and Dumber’ and he said, ‘This is the perfect sequel. Let’s do it.’”

Here’s one of my favorite scene’s from the first movie:
