(CBS Radio) — If you’re a woman, chances are you’ve been told at least once in your life that you talk too much.
It’s no secret that women like to converse…and they also like to be heard. On average, women say around 20,000 words everyday, while men on the other hand, utter a mere 7,000 words per day.
Have you ever wondered why women talk more than men? According to a study published in The Journal of Neuroscience, a woman’s brain contains higher levels of a language protein. It is believed that the protein is responsible for the “few” (13,000, but who’s counting?) extra words that women speak on a daily basis.

It boggles my mind, that in the age of social media, where almost everyone tweets and updates their Facebook status continuously — that women still have time to say 20,000 words every day. Can you remember the last time you picked up the phone and had a long conversation? I can’t. In truth, more than half of my interactions on a daily basis are delivered non-verbally.
I wouldn’t even know how to go about saying 20,000 words per day, unless of course, I started talking to myself!
Perhaps, the above mentioned studies are subject to interpretation. What do you think, do women really talk too much? Feel free to leave us a comment in the comment section.
